Welcome Sea Grant Summer Scholars

The ODFW Marine Reserves Program would like to welcome three Oregon Sea Grant scholars working with us for the summer. The Oregon Sea Grant Summer Scholar Program runs from June through August and places high caliber junior and senior undergraduate students from around the country in a variety of Oregon-based organizations to provide students with hands-on experience under the mentorship of a career professional. The purpose of the Summer Scholar program is to contribute to a diverse ocean workforce that understands technical and social challenges facing coastal communities and the natural environment, and prepare undergraduate students for graduate school and careers in marine science, policy, management, and outreach.

Our Scholars

Zach Clemens is from the University of Pittsburgh and will be working with our ecological monitoring team on the marine reserves.

Sarah Coffins is from the University of California in Monterey Bay and will be working with our human dimensions team.

Neal Tyson is from Central Connecticut State University and will be working with our Communications and Outreach team.

Follow along on their adventures and experiences this summer via their blog. Featured in the picture above, they kicked off their first day with a bit of survival suit training. Happy to have everyone on board!
